Hello,
I’m Nora - the founder of Kalinka!
I love knitting, natural materials, craftsmanship and slow fashion.
OUR CONCEPT
Kalinka is a brand for simple but classic hand knitted garments for kids from newborn to 10 years. The knitwear is handcrafted in Bulgaria. Each Kalinka piece is hand-knit with a lot of love and passion by experienced Bulgarian grand-mothers. Kalinka’s grannies carry on centuries-old knitting tradition passed down through generations.
The concept of Kalinka is to make handknits that are simple and romantic with a luxurious feeling and an inspiration of the past. Designed by a mom of three kids, the knits are distinctive but practical for everyday use and the comfort of your little one in mind.
WHO WE ARE
It all began like a classic story: Nora, the founder, and her twins Larry and Bobo. While a pregnant mommy with her boys – two out of three –, her love for knitting manifested and she started making clothes for her sons. From that moment she couldn’t stop knitting. Nora found herself digging into old closets for inspiration and talking to experienced grandmothers for some advice. In hindsight, it seems it was in her bloodline, as she didn’t wait long before coming up with her first designs for babies. What followed was the foundation of Kalinka. Now, ten years later, Kalinka is present in Europe, Americas, and Asia.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Kalinka was founded in Nora’s home country Bulgaria, in a beautiful city called Vidin situated on the Danube River. Kalinka means ‘ladybug’ in the native Bulgarian language. We’re a brand enamoured and driven by the region’s craftsmanship, and its long traditions in knitting and producing yarns. You might have heard of the Chiprovtsi hand-weaved carpets, part of UNESCO’s cultural heritage.
